Boat Operator’s Responsibility

KEEP A PROPER LOOKOUT RED RIGHT RETURNING
As the operator of a vessel, power or sail, you are responsible for the safety of all the passengers on board.
As the operator of a vessel you should let your passengers know where to locate the personal flotation devices (PFD) and/or life jackets and encourage them to wear them. (PFD’s and life jackets must be approved and be of the right size.)
As an operator of a vessel you should advise your passengers where all the safety equipment is located such as the buoyant heaving line, paddles, watertight flashlight, bailer and/or bilge pump, reboarding equipment, sound making devises (pea less whistle, horn or bell) and fire extinguishers.
As an operator of a vessel and where born after April 1, 1983, you MUST have acquired a Pleasure Craft Operators Card and have the card on board.
As an operator of a vessel whose overall length is less than 4 meters, REGARDLESS OF AGE, must have acquired a Pleasure Craft Operators Card and have the card on board.
As an operator of a Personal Watercraft (PWC) YOU MUST HAVE ATTAINED AGE 16.
As an operator of a Personal Watercraft, REGARDLESS OF AGE, you must have acquired a Pleasure Craft Operators Card and have the card on board.
As an operator of a vessel you are responsible for any damage caused by your wake and/or wash.
